Funding

The 27J Education Foundation provides funding that furthers the pursuit of education of students and educators within the 27J School District. These funds are made available through three programs:

Scholarships for Graduating High School Seniors

Application Criteria

  • Student must be a 27J School District graduating senior who has completed one full school year in the 27J District.
  • Student must have a scholastic record of 2.5 cumulative GPA or better and provide a copy of his or her official high school transcript.
  • Student must have been actively involved in the community and/or school activities. Submit a short resume to include any awards, community service, accomplishments, work (employment) history.
  • Student must obtain and attach two (2) written references: one from a member of the high school staff and one from a community member who has direct knowledge of the applicant’s community involvement. (No relatives.)
  • The recipient must enroll in a university, college, community college or vocational school as a full time (12 or more credit hours) or part-time (6 credit hours) student. Award will be adjusted accordingly for part-time enrollment.

Application Procedures

  • Submit your completed application with all required attachments to the 27J Education Foundation via email by March 15th via email. Successful applicants will be notified of his or her award at the Senior Breakfast or by mail.
  • Payment of scholarships will be made directly to the Financial Aid office of the institution the student attends upon the 27J Education Foundation’s receipt of proof of admission issued to the student. It is the responsibility of the recipient to ensure that 27J Education Foundation receives such proof. If proof is not received by 27J Education Foundation by the last day of September, the scholarship will be forfeited.

Continuing Education Scholarships for Teachers

Application Criteria

  • Teacher must have a full-time teaching contract for the current year.
  • Teacher must have a minimum of two years teaching experience with 27J
    School District.
  • Teacher must plan to continue as a teacher with 27J school district. (Termination of employment will result in forfeiture of the awarded scholarship.)

Application Procedures

  • Submit the completed and signed application with required essay to the 27J Education Foundation by Oct 31st for fall consideration and March 31st for spring consideration. Applications may be submitted to the 27J Education Foundation via email.
  • A selection committee appointed by the 27J Education Foundation will determine the recipients of scholarship. Successful applicants will be notified of his or her award by a representative of the Foundation.
  • The recipient will be directly reimbursed for the cost of the course taken (up to
    $500) upon receipt of proof of paid and completed course with a grade of “C”
    or better. Proof must be received within 60 days of completion of the course.

Classroom Grants

The mission of the 27J Education Foundation is to preserve, support and improve the educational opportunities within the community. The 27J Education Foundation provides opportunities for individuals and groups beyond what the school can offer. It is an expectation that all grant recipients use their experiences to enrich the community.

Who is eligible to request assistance?

Any 501(c)3 non-profit organization or school that serves within the School District 27J community. Applicants are encouraged from the diversified segments of our population.

How do I apply for assistance and what information should be included with the application?

A completed application along with the required attachments must be submitted to the 27J Education Foundation for consideration via email. Those attachments include:

  • One page description of the proposed project, including how you will address the mission of the 27J Education Foundation
  • Timeline for completion of the project
  • Complete budget. Since we do not completely fund a project, what are your additional funding sources?
  • Two letters of recommendation – one from a teacher and one from a community member

When is the deadline for application submission?

  • Fall: October 31st
  • Spring: March 15th

What are the funding guidelines and criteria for consideration of funding?

  • All grants must address the following: How does the grant support the mission of the 27J Education Foundation which is to preserve, support and improve the educational opportunities within the community by supporting and encouraging students, teachers and other community members so that they, in turn, can enrich others in the community?
  • The 27J Education Foundation will not fund the same project in succeeding years. You may apply every other year. Each school or organization may only apply for one grant at each grant deadline.

Examples of funded grants

  • Joint musical productions between senior citizens and elementary students
  • Science laboratory equipment
  • Book bags to provide reading materials for parents and students to share at home
  • Outdoor education and leadership activities
  • Digital/document projector
  • Elementary book authoring project

The 27J Education Foundation will not fund

  • Uniforms or costumes
  • Furnishings that the school should provide (i.e. tables, bookcases, chair, desks, etc.)
  • Salaries
  • Individual enrichment trips
  • Transportation, food or lodging
